Life after the floods

Well, life goes on. Everything seemed to stop for about a week after the floods. Everything was about clean up. I missed out on a lot of the intense clean up as I had to stay home with the boys. But thousands of people volunteered and a lot of work was done in the first few days. There is still a lot to do, but progress is being made. Sam and I were able to help out at Amy’s place a few times and it felt good to help. This is a photo from across the road, the streets were piled with rubbish for a couple of days. It doesn’t look to dirty and muddy, but believe me, it was.

After it flooded, the rain stopped (thankfully!) and the heat began. Summer kicked in and we’ve been sweating ever since. If we’re at home, the boys are usually near naked, and eating ice blocks (popsicles). We’ve been swimming a lot. The boys are getting so much more comfortable and confident in the water. I’m discovering that that is both good and bad. Jackson is quite cautious. Owen has no fear and repeatedly walked into the water assuming someone would catch him. I nearly had a heart attack, but Owen wasn’t bothered at all! I hope I survive this boy.

We also spent a weekend in Gympie. We took the kids to a playhouse thing that had a ball pit for Owen size people and a big climbing playground for Jackson size people. Therefore, lots of photos of Owen, not so much of Jackson. Owen was pretty scared at first, but as you can see, he got over it. Can’t wait to go back!
